Military Brother of the Month (March 2023)

Brother Whitney Allen is a member of the Louisville (KY) Alumni Chapter, where is serves as the chapters Military and Veterans Affairs Committee (MVAC) chair. He was born in Wallace LA., and is the MVAC Military Awards Chair for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

He graduated from Dillard University with Bachelor of Science in Physics. He earned a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership from Webster University.

Brother Allen joined the Army Reserve in Houma, LA in 1988 – 1992. He was commissioned at Tulane University in May 1994. He was initiated November 1992 into the Beta Gamma Chapter (Dillard University).

On August 4, 2021, Governor Andy Beshear appointed Lieutenant Colonel, USA (Retired) Whitney Allen as the seventh Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veteran Affairs. Commissioner Whitney Allen is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel with 25 years of combined military service.  He has been Deputy Commissioner of KDVA and is an advocate for veteran inclusion in the workforce.

Brother Allen is a member of the Kentucky Veteran Hall of Fame, Louisville Week of Valor 2020 Honoree, Humana’s 2020 Boots on the Ground Honoree, Louisville Business First 2019 “Salute to Veterans” honoree, Kentucky Colonel, and holds membership/leadership positions in local and national veteran organizations including Veterans Community Alliance of Louisville (VCAL), and the NAACP Louisville Chapter’s Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.

Brother Allen is married to Yolanda Allen (Jackson). They have two daughters, Alayna and Aliyah. They reside in Louisville, KY.

Brother Allen retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and has served our Nation in many capacities during his 25 years of combined Active Federal and Reserve service, to include: Platoon Leader, 69th Chemical Co, 1-1 Cavalry Squadron, Budingen, GE, Bn S2, 519th Military Police Battalion, Ft. Army Recruiting Command, Ft. Knox, KY, Intel Planner, G3 FUOPS, 3rd Army/CFLCC, Kuwait, Executive Officer/Senior Intel Advisor, J3 Validation Transition Team, Kabul, AF, Bn S3, U.S. Army Mission Support Battalion, Ft. Brother Allen’s deployments include Operation Joint Endeavor (IFOR) (Bosnia –Herzegovina,): TF Battle Captain/Chemical Officer of 4/67 Armor Battalion executing initial peacekeeping operations in Bosnia, OIF/OEF, Operation Noble Eagle – (Jordan): BDE S2 OC/T in support of 3rd Army/CFLCC Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) engagement with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Operation Enduring Freedom (Kuwait): Intelligence planner in G35 Future Operations Cell responsible for planning/coordinating operations in support OIF/OEF, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan): J3 Validation Transition Team Executive Officer/Senior Intelligence Advisor responsible for the coordination and execution of combat evaluations of Afghanistan National Army units to determine if they are capable of conducting independent operations with Coalition support and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan): where he served as SFAAT Team Chief/Advisor responsible for mentorship of Type A HQs Police Chief responsible for six provinces and Operations Command Center as well as Provisional Commander responsible military/civilian operations in Pakitya.

Brother Allen has received several Military awards, to include Bronze Star (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1 x Silver OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal (Bronze Star), Army Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon (Numeral #3 device), NATO Medal (Bronze Star) and Airborne Badge.
